Development to Begin on Grading Technology
MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 4 /CNW/ - DuPont Canada Inc. (TSX: DUP.A) ("DuPont"), a leading diversified science company, announced today the strategic development alliance for DuPont™ Acurum™, its innovative new business venture based on automated grain analysis technology that offers sophisticated, objective and rapid analysis of grain. The Acurum™ system reduces the subjectivity inherent in the grain quality assessment process. As announced last June, scientists at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada ("AAFC")at the Lethbridge Research Center in Alberta have developed this knowledge-intensive technology, and DuPont has licensed the technology for worldwide commercialization.
Over the past year, DuPont has been leading the instrument development work and plans to market the Acurum™ system on a global scale. To further develop the instrument, DuPont has recruited three companies in addition to AAFC: Linnet - The Land Systems Company® ("Linnet"), CIMTEK Automation Systems ("CIMTEK") and NeuralWare® ("NeuralWare").
Winnipeg-based Linnet is the leading provider of Enterprise Land Management systems for agriculture, focused on supply chain, raceability and food safety. Linnet is responsible for developing the software that will connect all of the instruments to a global network.
CIMTEK, of Burlington, Ontario, an ISO 9001 certified supplier of high value-added test engineering solutions, has been selected as the exclusive manufacturer and system integrator for DuPont™ Acurum™. In this capacity, CIMTEK will be responsible for the manufacture, service and support of the Acurum™ analysis system.
NeuralWare®, a leading developer of advanced analytic technologies located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is supplying the neural network-based artificial intelligence engine for the Acurum™ system.
Ron Zelonka, DuPont Canada's Vice-President Technology and Innovation, stated, "We are excited to be working with these first-class corporations. Our commercialization of DuPont™ Acurum™ demonstrates our commitment to technological innovation in the Canadian and global agricultural marketplace. The Acurum™ system provides valuable information that key suppliers in the grain producing value chain will use to make better business decisions in the grain quality assessment process. Acurum™ applies our scientific expertise and cutting-edge technology to provide integrated science solutions."
The Acurum™ system will be commercial in the fall of 2003 in Canada and will be available to all stakeholders in the grain supply chain, including farmers, elevator and terminal operators, flour mills as well as foreign grain customers.
