Case Study: Fuel Tank Manufacturers use Patented DuPont Technology to Reduce Hydrocarbon Emissions up to 98%
Selar® RB is used to blowmold plastic fuel tanks with an integral laminar barrier.
Application Description
Plastic fuel tanks blow-molded with an integral laminar barrier.
Materials Selected and Why
Selar® RB is used to reduce fuel permeation and is a potential solution to improving permeation performance of plastic containers.
The patented “Laminar Barrier Technology” works by adding Selar® RB to the polyethylene in line at the blow-bolding machine. With controlled mixing of the polyethylene and Selar® RB blend, the fuel tank is produced with many large discontinuous and overlapping barrier platelets within the polyethylene structure.
Selar® RB can reduce up to 98% of fuel permeation that normally occurs with PE.
Preliminary studies indicate Selar® RB to be one of the most cost-effective alternatives to achieve permeation resistance in portable fuel containers.
