Case Study: Viton®, Teflon®, Kevlar® and Hypalon® Create Best-In-Class F200 Fuel Hose and Tubing

Products from DuPont and DuPont Performance Elastomers work together to create fuel hose and tubing with exceptional permeation resistance.

Application Description

The patented F200 barrier hose is suitable for fuel filler neck, tank jumper, vapor vent and in-tank applications, as well as engine jumper locations subject to intensive heat.

Materials Selected and Why

The F200 barrier hose design utilizes the inner layer sealing and permeation benefits of DuPont Performace Elastomers’ Viton® fluoroelastomer and further permeation characteristics of Teflon® FEP film, with Kevlar® aramid reinforcement and cover of Hypalon®  chlorosulfonated polyethylene.

This construction is recognized as best-in-class of any commercially available fuel hose for permeation resistance through the wall and at the coupling ends.

Benefits Gained

  • Low Permeation - The F200 hose has demonstrated dramatically lower permeation of CE10 reference test fuel mixture (90% ASTM Fuel C, 10% ethanol) over extended 840-hour competitive tests versus NBR-THV-NBR-CPE and THV-ECO low permeation hose constructions.
