Application Description
The roof appliques on the Saturn VUE sport utility vehicles are long, curved exterior parts attached to the vehicle’s metal space frame above doors and behind rear side windows. In addition to providing an elegant, finished look, the appliques help channel away rainwater while providing a rigid, smooth sealing surface for the doors’ weather-stripping.
Materials Selected and Why
One of the key requirements for the appliques is a Class A finish, a demanding surface-quality specification for parts that are subsequently painted. Painted Rynite® PET gives the gloss and distinctiveness of image needed to match the other exterior vehicle surfaces.
The stiffness of Rynite® PET with both glass fiber and mineral reinforcements is crucial to fit. In addition, atmospheric humidity has virtually no effect on the dimensions, strength and toughness of Rynite® PET
