Case Study: Audi Achieves Superior Antifog Headlamp Design Using Zenite®

Bezel made from Zenite® liquid crystal polymer resin eliminates out-gassing problems and allows a smaller antifog headlamp design.

Application Description

Antifog headlight bezel for the Audi models A3, A4, A6, A8.

The market trend is to design smaller antifog headlamps with more powerful bulbs. This has increased  temperatures inside the housing, calling for improved heat-resistant materials. High heat also produces out-gassing, especially for the polymers that are closer to the bulb and the external glass. The volatile fumes generated can darken the glass.

Materials Selected and Why

Zenite®  liquid crystal polymer resin was chosen for the bezel for its:

  • Heat resistance
  • No out-gassing
  • Good surface aspect
