Future fabrics for automotive interior seating applications developed to respond to, and anticipate future trends in reduced foam seats.  New dymetol elastomeric fabrics based on Hytrel® technology, can replace springs in foam-based seat systems.

Materials Selected and Why

Hytrel® polyester has the unique advantage of possessing the best qualities of plastics and elastomers. This combination provides remarkable strength and flexibility needed for seating applications. The high modulus stretch fabric allows reduced foam, lighter weight, and increased comfort. 

The new dymetol elastomeric fabrics based on Hytrel® technology have an excellent performance record for long life and comfort at reduced weight, and have been used in a variety of non-automotive fabric applications, such as new revolutionary high-end office chairs.
