Case Study: Powder*Clear reduces emissions significantly
DuPont developed a reduced emissions clearcoat technology in order to help an automaker meet VOC regulations.
Application Description
Environmental regulations force car manufacturers to reduce solvent emissions in paint shops. A revolutionary step was the introduction of a reduced emissions technology in 1997: powder clearcoat for car bodies. More than 1 million car bodies have been powder-coated since then.
Materials Selected and Why
This technology is based on acrylic binder chemistry. The acrylic polymers cross link with a carboxy-funtional hardener.
The main technical properties of Powder*Clear are a very smooth and glossy surface and excellent weathering-resistance as well as chemical and scratch influences.
