Case Study: The first choice for airbag fiber is DuPontTM Airbag Nylon 6,6-HT
DuPontTM Airbag Nylon 6,6-HT performs extremely well by keeping the pressure and heat in the bag.
Application Description
Airbags are remarkable systems requiring high-performance engineered materials to withstand high mechanical stresses and high temperatures. During deployment, the internal pressure within the airbag can rise up to 100kPa and temperatures of up to 5000°F (2760°C) has been observed. In addition, some inflators expel hot particulates that add additional thermal loading to this system.
Materials Selected and Why
DuPont™ Airbag Nylon 6,6-HT performs extremely well in this application by keeping the pressure and heat in the bag. With its superior energy absorption and thermal resistance properties, our family of product can withstand extremely high temperatures and substantial mechanical stress.
In addition, DuPont™ Airbag Nylon 6,6-HT fiber has been shown to perform extremely well in a simulated vehicle lifetime aging test and, more importantly, in real-life situations over the past 18 years.
