Innovative coolant valve saves fuel, reduces emissions

Application Description
The control valve’s three parts made of Zytel® HTN PPA play key roles in regulating the flow of engine coolant to different areas of the engine and powertrain. The valve’s operation is computer-controlled to allow the engine, transmission and other powertrain elements to operate at optimum temperature across a wide range of engine load conditions and ambient temperatures. Optimum powertrain temperatures can deliver year-round fuel economy improvements greater than 5% and lower CO2 emissions from reduced fuel use, according to MileageMatrix, Inc., which developed the valve. The unit also maintains oil temperature well above the dew point, presenting the possibility of longer oil change intervals and correspondingly lower oil use and fewer oil filters for disposal, according to MileageMatrix.
Benefits Gained
Durability: The valve parts molded from Zytel® HTN PPA withstand continuous exposure to aggressive long-life engine coolant at temperatures ranging up to 130oC.
Consistent performance: Because of Zytel® HTN PPA’s excellent retention of properties in moisture, the value components, operate smoothly.
Light weight, low cost: The parts made of Zytel® HTN PPA weigh and cost less than corresponding metal components, according to MileageMatrix.
