Evaporative hydrocarbon emission losses are now tightly regulated – and the future promises ever-higher restrictions. Vapor lines, fuel vapor valves and the carbon canister are receiving intense scrutiny from automotive designers and engineers. DuPont has developed an unparalleled knowledge base in the permeation rates of elastomers and plastics.
For the fuel tank vapor system, including ORVR (On Board Refueling Vapor Recovery), DuPont’s Zytel® nylon and Delrin® acetal deliver excellent performance in vapor valves and other components. Teflon® and Tefzel® fluoropolymer contributes ultra-low permeability to vapor line tubing and hoses.
Emissions canisters have become critical components of the fuel system. Zytel® toughened and unreinforced nylon resins have been used for more than 20 years in canister housings.
