On display by DuPont at NPE! Booth 2632, South Hall
Momentum, a design show experience from DuPont and INVISTA S.á r.l., was unveiled to designers in multiple markets today at the NPE.
Momentum explores 12 major consumer trends responsible for shaping future product design and then presents more than 50 innovative materials from either DuPont or INVISTA along those trends in a way that stimulates new product design ideas.
“In a way, DuPont and INVISTA are helping to bridge the communications gap between design and engineering,” said Stanley E. Rayford, DuPont Momentum design leader. “Having stimulating colors, textures and shapes presented along emerging trends helps DuPont and INVISTA speak to designers with the goal of launching new products. In effect DuPont and INVISTA are each providing designers and engineers with the ‘momentum’ to create inspired design solutions.”
Along those lines, nearly 20 percent of NPE attendees say they are going to NPE to gain new ideas, according to a DuPont Engineering Polymers survey of plastics professionals who say they plan to attend the show (see “The Hunt for New Ideas, New Resins Drive NPE Attendance, According to DuPont Engineering Polymers Pre-Show Survey Results ”). “Gaining new ideas” was tied with “learning about new resins” as the number one reason to attend NPE, according to the survey.
Momentum is based on years of successful automotive-focused design shows with participation by both DuPont and INVISTA. This program extends the trends and materials offering to be relevant to designers in most consumer markets. “The materials and technologies highlighted in Momentum are drawn from the industry’s largest portfolio of new and emerging performance materials, and concepts are presented relevant to designers who are interested in discovering new ways to differentiate their products in multiple markets,” said Jane Gillette design resource manager, Transportation Flooring for INVISTA.

DuPont and INVISTA, with science and solutions as their heritage, bring a breadth of material and technology to the forefront, Rayford added. “Momentum invites contribution early in the development cycle – at the concept stage – when the right material can give shape to smarter ideas – often faster and more cost effectively.”
