New DuPont soft thermoplastic elastomer grades stand up "under the hood"

To meet growing demand for soft oil- and heat-resistant elastomers delivering the cost and design benefits of thermoplastic processing, DuPont Engineering Polymers is extending its range of such materials.

The new offerings include three new grades of DuPont™ ETPV engineering thermoplastic vulcanizate and a new grade of DuPont™ Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomer. All of them can withstand under-the-hood automotive conditions and hightemperature industrial environments. Typical applications include extruded hose and tubing, blow moulded air ducts and injection moulded seals and body plugs.

New Hytrel® AC801 NC010 is much softer than any other grade of Hytrel® and has improved heat resistance. Its nominal hardness is Shore A 80, and it is rated for 150ºC service, which is about 20ºC higher than most other Hytrel® grades.

New DuPont™ ETPV 95A02HS BK001 and 95A02 NC010 grades provide outstanding processing stability in profile extrusion and in blow moulding, of air ducts for example. The two versions are a black heat-stabilized grade (…BK001) rated for 3000 hours at 150ºC and a standard natural grade (…NC010) for less demanding requirements.

Two other recent DuPont™ ETPV additions have hardness values of 70 and 80 Shore A. Earlier grades in the DuPont™ ETPV product line have Shore A values of 60 and 90.

The DuPont Engineering Polymers business manufactures and sells Crastin® PBT and Rynite® PET thermoplastic polyester resins, Delrin® acetal resins, Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomers, DuPont™ ETPV engineering thermoplastic vulcanizates, Minlon® mineral reinforced nylon resins, Thermx® PCT polycyclohexylene dimethyl terephthalate, Tynex® filaments, Vespel® parts and shapes, Zenite® LCP liquid crystal polymers, Zytel® nylon resins and Zytel® HTN high-performance polyamides.
