Case Study Image DuPont Provides a Complete Ignition Materials Package

DuPont Engineering Polymers offers a complete package of materials for modern automotive ignition systems.  DuPont™ Rynite® PET or Crastin® PBT grades are available for ignition cases and connector systems as well as for primary and secondary bobbins. These materials have a proven industry track record of reliable ignition performance around the world in coil-near-plug, coil-on-plug and the latest pencil coil ignition systems.

 Tough Polymers Beat the Heat

The outstanding epoxy adhesion of Rynite and Crastin ignition grades (for example Rynite® 940 and Crastin®SK605) is a critical property for ignition designers.  Special grades offering high temperature dielectric strength and corona resistance (Rynite® 530HTE and Rynite® RE5329) also have been developed specifically for ignition applications.

Automotive design engineers also are challenged by thermal shock performance and property retention at increasingly higher engine operating temperatures. Rynite® excels in beating the heat under the hood with toughened grades available for ignition cases. High-flow materials such as Rynite® also can help produce the precise thin walls of the case and the primary and secondary bobbins for pencil coil ignitions.

Material development work continues, and the latest addition to the DuPont product line, Thermx® PCT, also offers excellent electrical properties. DuPont also offers the Voltron® wire coating system for high dielectric strength wiring systems.
