It's all about Safety...
Standards have been
created and continue to be developed to ensure that those who ride in and
work around motor vehicles remain safe. These standards influence the design
of components and the materials used in these components.
DuPont is actively involved with the standards organizations that develop
standards for advanced automotive electrical systems and the materials used
in these systems. This participation aids us in developing materials that
will meet the requirements of the new standards.
Electrical and Electronic Equipment
The International Organization for Standardization, ISO, Technical
Committee TC22, Road Vehicles, Subcommittee SC3, Electrical and Electronic
Equipment has developed 99 standards. Currently a new standard, ISO/Committee
Draft CD21848 Road Vehicles -- Electrical and electronic equipment for a
42-volt network -- is under ballot.
Materials and Components
Standards for materials and components are developed in several organizations,
including ISO, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Society of
Automotive Engineers (SAE), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers
(IEEE), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and Underwriters
Laboratories Inc. (UL). ASTM Committee D09 on Electrical and Electronic
Insulating Materials has recently formed a new
Subcommittee D09.42 on 42 V Insulating Materials.
