The High Performance Wall
This session will outline the ever increasing challenges presented by changes to building codes and energy programs, material and design choices and consumer expectations in creating high performance buildings. Specifically this workshop will focus on the science behind making walls more durable, safer and more energy efficient without compromising cost effectiveness and build-ability. This information presented will empower participants to implement new technologies, materials and processes into their building practices.
This session will be of most interest to:
• New home builders, re-modelers, architects and designers, commercial general contractors, trades and building suppliers, building officials and energy raters
• Identify the increased importance of key air and weather barrier details to maintain long-term durability in the face of increasing energy efficiency requirements
• Understand the total thermal effectiveness of wall systems and why this is important in meeting new code and green program requirements
• Provide an overview of wall systems alternatives and their overall impact on air, heat and moisture flow
Identify construction detail options for the installation of different insulation strategies in traditional framed wall systems, such as exterior insulated sheathing
