Case Study Image

Application Description

Being safe, natural and healthy are essential components for the French baby food market to shift to plastic containers.  The PP/EVOH/PP thermoformed round-shaped cups offer barrier to oxygen, moisture and UV light.  Furthermore, the material selected withstands the rigorous thermal processing required when producing long-life ambient stable packages.

Benefits Gained

The challenge was to design a package that was attractive to both babies and their parents with the added benefits of microwavable, lightweight, non-breakable and 12 months shelf-life.  The result was a unique and differentiated by design, user-friendliness through easy-open package.  Its round shape is specially designed to allow consumption of all the content of the package without effort.

Materials Selected and Why

The 100 percent recyclable 5-layer thermoformed cups use a PP/EVOH/PP sheet that is coextruded using DuPont™ Bynel® adhesive as a tie layer to withstand the high temperatures of sterilization for maximum shelf-life.  By shifting to these nested plastic containers, the manufacturers transportation cost and warehouse space have been reduced.
