DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches are available in smooth or textured finish, in either brush or knife grade. Choose a DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch that will best match your project. DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches are available in a 1 gallon container and require one of the following applicators; standard paint brush, putty knife or adhesive trowel. Applying the DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch is simple and applicator tools can be easily cleaned with soap and water.

Surface Preparation:

The area must be thoroughly cleaned before patching any joint, gap or crack. Surfaces to be patched must be dry and free of all chips, dirt, dust, oil, mildew, loose paint, or other surface contaminants. Use masking tape to prevent patch from sticking to adjoining areas. Remove tape immediately after patch has been tooled. Only apply patch when surface and air temperatures will remain above 50°F. Do not apply if the surface temperature is above 120°F.

Application:

  • DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches require no mixing and are ready to use.
  • Always test for compatibility with intended substrate prior to applying product.
  • Clean substrate thoroughly and allow it dry as needed before applying product.
  • DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch Textured Knife Grade w/ DuPont™ Kevlar® should be used for cracks wider than ½”.
  • Gaps deeper than ½” require the use of backer rod before applying the product.
  • Apply to hairline cracks with a clean brush, putty knife or other blade. Note that two applications may be required for larger gaps. Allow to cure for 24 hours between applications.
  • Tool patch to match desired texture and profile of the surrounding area. The product cannot be sanded after curing.
  • Clean tools with soap and water.
  • Allow 24 hours before applying paint.

Limitations:

  • Not to be used on structural cracks.
  • For maximum adhesion to bare concrete apply Masonry Surface Conditioner for best results.
  • Do not use below grade.
  • Not intended for aquariums or areas that will be submerged in water.
  • Do not use on surfaces that come into contact with food.
  • Replace the lid on the container when storing unused product.
  • Keep from freezing.
  • Cannot be sanded after curing.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the advantages of DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches?
DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches are high quality modified acrylic elastomeric patches that can be used on a variety of interior and exterior surfaces. Excellent for repairing cracks, gaps and minor defects on stucco, masonry, brick, wood, plaster, drywall, concrete, metal and surfaces that require a water-resistant and flexible seal.

Why are there four different DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches?
DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches come in two smooth and two textured formulas. Choose the product that best matches your project. Once cured for at least 24 hours, DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches may be painted.

  1. DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch Textured Knife Grade with Kevlar® is used to repair large gaps up to ½” wide. It can be applied with a putty knife or trowel. The textured elastomeric patch can be manipulated to match the profile of the surrounding surface, such as stucco, EIFS (synthetic stucco) or textured wall surfaces. It is formulated with DuPont™ Kevlar® for additional strength.
  2. DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch Textured Brush Grade with Kevlar® is used to repair medium to small gaps up 1/8” wide. It can be applied with a paint brush or putty knife. The textured elastomeric patch can be manipulated to match the profile of the surrounding surface, such as stucco, EIFS (synthetic stucco) or textured wall surfaces. It is formulated with DuPont™ Kevlar® for additional strength.
  3. DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch Smooth Knife Grade is used to fill, patch or repair surface defects on smooth surfaces.  It can be applied with a putty knife or trowel. The smooth elastomeric patch can be manipulated to match the profile of the surrounding surface, such as concrete tilt walls, smooth masonry or wood surfaces.
  4. DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch Smooth Brush Grade is used to fill, patch or repair minor surface irregularities or imperfections on smooth horizontal surfaces.  It can be applied with a paint brush or putty knife. The smooth elastomeric patch can be manipulated to match the profile of the surrounding surface, such as concrete walls, smooth masonry or wood surfaces.

Can DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches be used to fill cracks and surface defects?
Yes, DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches are ideal for filling cracks up to ½” wide or to repair minor surface defects, dents or dings.

Can I use the DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch on the exterior of my home?
Yes, DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches may be used on both interior and exterior applications.

What type of surface preparation is needed prior to applying the DuPont™ Elastomeric Patch?
It is important that the area be thoroughly cleaned before patching any joint, gap or crack. Surfaces to be patched must be dry and free of all concrete dust, chips, dirt, dust, oil, mildew, loose paint, and other contaminates that could prevent adhesion. Only apply when surface and air temperatures will remain above 50°F. Do not apply if the surface temperature is  above 120°F.

Can DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches be sanded?
No, DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches cannot be sanded. When applying the product, it should be done in a manner that makes the patch match the surrounding surface.

Can DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches be painted?
Yes, DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches can be painted. Allow the product to dry for 24 hours. It is compatible with most paints, but test prior to the application.

Are DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches VOC compliant?
Yes. DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches are non-chemically curing products and the VOC content is less than 1.5%.

What do I use to clean excess product from tools or other surfaces?
All of the DuPont™ Elastomeric Patches can be cleaned off of tools and surfaces with soap and water.
