DuPont Chambers Works Awards $15,000 Grant to Salem County Education

Grant Will Fund Science Teacher Mentoring Program

As part of its continued commitment to support local community initiatives, DuPont Chambers Works today announced it has awarded a $15,000 grant to the Salem County education system for a science teacher mentoring program.

The grant will be used to pair DuPont science professionals with science teachers and

expose them to examples of real world science applications and concepts and provide them with valuable educational resources. Additionally, the grant will help teachers enhance and develop skills aimed at interesting young students in science, future careers in science, and improving science education levels.

This grant is one of more than 80 projects worldwide being supported in 2008 by the DuPont Community Fund, a program that has provided more than $2 million for innovative programs that address community sustainability in the areas of social progress, economic success and environmental excellence.

"We are extremely proud of the strong tie we have with Salem County science education," said Gerry Ferguson, Chambers Works Jackson Laboratory unit manager and founding member of the DuPont Partners in Science Program. "This grant and partnership will enhance the site's commitment to science education and our community," Ferguson said.

Each year Chambers Works partners with local educators to create and sponsor school programs aimed at enriching the lives of local youth, and plant employees volunteer hundreds of hours a year in support of local community organizations and events.
