DuPont Chemical Solutions appoints BTC Products & Services as distributor for Chlorine Dioxide Solutions in the Southern Africa
DuPont Chemical Solutions has appointed BTC Products & Services (Pty) Ltd South Africa distributor for Chlorine Dioxide Solutions in the Southern African Region. The agreement that came into effect on July 1, 2010 is meant to combine both the capabilities of DuPont with the local distribution organization and expertise of BTC Products & Services (Pty) Ltd, to provide a comprehensive offering in the African water treatment sector.
With over 60 years of expertise, DuPont is a global leader in chlorine dioxide and generator technology where the amount of chlorine dioxide is greater than 10kgs/day and high purity is critical. Its Oxychlor® platform is a modular series of chlorine dioxide generation equipment that offers a range of options for precursor chemical storage, ClO2 generation, distribution, dosing control, and monitoring that will safely and economically meet customer’s site specific ClO2 needs. To this, DuPont has recently added the ISIA chlorine dioxide generation technology, through a global partnership.
BTC Products & Services (Pty) Ltd has established itself over the last 15 years as the pioneer of Chlorine Dioxide solutions into the Southern African market to a variety of customers in the Food & Beverage Industries, Industrial Cooling Water application and Environmental applications like cyanide destruction. BTC Products has been designing, assembling, installing, commissioning and maintaining its OXICAT Chlorine Dioxide generator and dosing, monitoring and control systems based on their 3-chemical platform. Their commercialized systems operate from 0.5 kg per hour to 5kg per hour Chlorine Dioxide capacity.
With this agreement, DuPont has taken another step in establishing a long-term presence not only in North America, but also in emerging markets like Africa. The new partnership in Chlorine Dioxide will assist DuPont in meeting the specific customer requirements in the region, especially in the municipal (drinking and waste water disinfection) and industrial (cooling water disinfection), growth markets. “Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. There are multiple solutions that can assist in dealing with Africa’s water security crisis but it is only through pooling our global knowledge base that we can really start to deal with issues such as water security.” says Carlman Moyo, Regional director for DuPont Sub-Saharan Africa.
Hugh Mitchell, the Managing Director of BTC Products & Services (Pty) Ltd comments: "With access to Du Pont's Chlorine Dioxide offering of precursor chemicals, a wide range of Chlorine Dioxide generators, resources, together with a vast array of application knowledge and expertise we will be able to confidently approach the growth markets in the SADC countries with the most cost effective alternative to chlorine disinfection. Africa currently has some 400 million people without access to microbiological safe drinking water, which is a fundamental human right. As mankind, in general not only in Africa, is placing more strain (pollution) on the available water resources the more it becomes a necessity to either augment chlorine (the traditional disinfectant) or totally replace it because under these circumstances chlorine is no longer technically effective. Chlorine Dioxide is a powerful oxidant and disinfectant that can still provide microbiologically safe drinking water even under the harshest working conditions. Furthermore, wastewater in Africa tends to be discharged into the environment (rivers, lakes ,dams, underground water aquifiers and in the sea) that ends up in the source of water that is treated to produce drinking water. This application needs considerable attention."
