Organic Recovery Treatment Program is a cost-effective, environmentally approved alternative to combustion.

Materials for the Organic Recovery Treatment program can be accepted in drums, tank trailers, totes, or railcars. If your organization has a high-water-content waste stream that is currently being fuel-blended and burned, DuPont Clean Water Technologies offer a cost-effective, environmentally approved treatment alternative—steam stripping. Our Chambers Works plant in Deepwater, New Jersey, is home to a full-scale commercial organic recovery treatment process for organic/water waste streams. Rather than burn the entire waste stream, we strip targeted organic compounds out of the water, so only those organics are burned.

Compatibility Is Key

The steam stripping process meets Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) standards for D001 wastes with a total organic content (TOC) equal to or more than 10 percent. The process is economical and compatible with a wide variety of organic wastes, including:

  • Alcohols
  • Aliphatic hydrocarbons
  • Aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Chlorinated hydrocarbons
  • Esters
  • Ketones

What's more, steam stripping is particularly effective for organic wastewater streams with a low Btu value (<5,000 Btu/lb), including F001 through F005 spent solvent wastewaters.

Steam stripping is also well-suited for wastewaters with multiple organic layers or for those containing priority pollutants, such as toluene, chlorobenzene, and methylene chloride.

The SET Advantage

The SET plant at the Chambers Works site is the largest commercial industrial wastewater treatment facility in the world, with a capacity of up to 40 million gallons of wastewater per day.

The DuPont SET operation has more than 20 years of experience in the treatment and disposal of aqueous nonhazardous and RCRA hazardous waste streams, including D, F, K, P, and U hazard waste codes.
