Secure Environmental Treatment brings Leadership through Technology
At DuPont Clean Water Technologies, we do more than just treat waste. With our Secure Environmental Treatment (SET) capability, we use the real-world experience, hands-on knowledge, and technical expertise and resources of the DuPont Company to treat a broad range of waste streams. We're always looking for new technologies and new applications for existing technologies, in order to broaden our acceptance capabilities as much as possible.
When you work with us, you can rest assured that you're dealing with a fully integrated business unit of DuPont, a $25 billion company that operates hundreds of chemical process sites worldwide. We share the mind-set of the manufacturing community, which helps us provide better services and proactive solutions to waste disposal problems.
And, once your waste is accepted for treatment, DuPont takes full responsibility for its ultimate disposal – so you don’t have to. Hazardous waste residues are disposed of in the safest, most compliant, and most cost-effective manner possible.
The SET wastewater treatment system includes:
Innovative Pretreatment Technologies We provide a variety of pretreatment technologies, including chemical treatment, phase separation, and steam stripping. These rugged processes enable us to pre-treat large volumes of wastewaters that contain difficult-to-treat compounds, such as sulfides, heavy metals, organics, and solvents providing you with both convenience and cost savings.
Unique Treatment System After pretreatment, waste is neutralized with lime to achieve a pH of 7, and solids are flocculated and settled, then removed and dewatered in large filter presses. Next, wastewater is treated, using the Powdered Activated Carbon Treatment (PACT) process, a two-step system of aeration and clarification developed by DuPont. PACT combines both carbon adsorption and biological degradation technologies together in the aeration step, enabling us to treat a wide variety of organics. The diversity of materials received and treated by SET has led to the development of an extremely robust consortium of bio-organisms geared toward treating complex industrial chemical wastewaters. The activated carbon and biomass that settle to the bottom of the tanks during the PACT process are recovered and recycled back to the aerators.
Safe Discharge After a second stage of PACT treatment, effluent is mixed with non-contact cooling water to adjust the temperature before being safely discharged into the Delaware River through the NJPDES-permitted (New Jersey Pollution Discharge Elimination System) outfall.
Secure Environmental Treatment is prompt, efficient service.
