DuPont Safety Resources Helps Mitsubishi Australia Drive Home Safety
For the past 18 months, DuPont Safety Resources (DSR) in Australia has worked closely with Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd (MMAL) to assist the company in reducing workplace injuries and fatalities. A cultural change program known as '24/7 Zero Harm' was introduced and has delivered many safety accomplishments, including a 55 percent reduction in lost time injury frequency rate and a 43 percent reduction in workers' compensation claims.
Steve Barrett, general manager, MMAL Human Resources, said the company previously employed many reactive – rather than preventive – safety measures. MMAL executed a safety evaluation by DuPont to reevaluate its health and safety position.
"I think the DuPont evaluation helped the organization come to the realization that it's more about having systems and procedures in place. We also learned that it's about changing people's behaviors and getting into the mindset of every employee, from the CEO down," Steve said.
DSR Business Manager David Hainsworth said Mitsubishi should be proud of how they have driven the change process and achieved results. "I have seen a client brave enough to place safety at the top of their reform agenda at a time of incredible market pressure. It is personally rewarding to see so much DuPont safety 'DNA' reflected in MMAL's initiatives," he said.
