The Flensburg Health Promotion Programme is based on the assumption that effective health and safety management needs to be based on a number of measures tailored to the specific risk profile of an organisation. Health promotion has to be anchored in a variety of places throughout the organisation, whereby employee involvement is an essential. At the same time, the programme requires and supports employee commitment and responsibility, since in many instances involvement takes place on a voluntary basis. The advantage for the company is higher productivity, reduction of absenteeism and employee motivation.

Deutsche Post (Germany)

“"Safe Hitching Makes Good Sense" accident prevention program. Deutsche Post World Net is one of the leading logistics groups worldwide. With their brands “Deutsche Post”, “DHL” and “Postbank” they offer a wide range of first-class services to their customers around the globe. The jury remarked that the implementation of this safety programme at Deutsche Post has led to a sharp drop in the number of accidents. Also, it was noticed that there had been no fatalities since the programme was introduced.

2002

AENA- Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea

Plan Barajas, a corporate entity in charge of the extension of Madrid Barajas airport was awarded the first DuPont Safety Award. The jury remarked the AENA contribution to enhance safety and accident prevention with the design and implementation of a coordinated project in which the combined participation of the company, the workers and their respective trade unions yielded a performance significantly superior to the national average of this sector.
