The first ever non-stop balloon flight around the world brought Bertrand Piccard fame as the “scientist-adventurer.” Born into a dynasty of explorers and scientists who conquered the heights and the depths of our planet, Bertrand seemed predestined to pursue one of the greatest family adventures of the 20th century. As a doctor specialised in psychiatry and psychotherapy, aeronaut, internationally renowned public speaker, author, President of the “Winds of Hope” humanitarian foundation and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, Bertrand aims to combine his family’s scientific legacy with his commitment to exploring the great adventure of life.
As President of Solar Impulse, his latest project which aims to re-enact the history of powered flight using only solar energy in an aircraft capable of remaining airborne without producing any polluting emissions, Bertrand hopes to draw the public’s attention to the inevitable changes needed to ensure our planet’s future energy resources and ecology and to give environmental protection a positive and stimulating image.

Mr. Weigand was appointed to his current role in September 2007. He joined DuPont in 1981, and has held a variety of positions in finance, sales and marketing in Performance Coatings and Engineering Polymers. Most recently, Mr. Weigand was the global business director for Advanced Fiber Systems, where he had global business leadership responsibilities for products primarily under the Kevlar® and Nomex® brands sold into a variety of markets including military, state and local governments, automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, power and communications.
