Directly connected to Exit 2 of Kyobashi Metro Station, there lies a three storied business center called ITOKI Tokyo Innovation Center “SYNQA (pronounced as shinka)”. This innovation center is owned by ITOKI targeted to offer interior design services for office, hospital and public facilities.
“SYNQA intends to be a place for creating new possibilities and realizing open innovations by going beyond limitations of corporate departments, enhancing communications with external parties. Different design concepts are applied according to the functionality of each floor.”, says Sachiko Kayama from ITOKI, who is in charge of the facility’s design. Upon registration as member, one may access the 1st floor as it’s a common working space for all members. The area offers an energizing working space along with warm and hearty café, a small exhibition area for revolutionary projects, and a library full of inspiring books.
“In order to attract more people from outside, wood is widely applied to create a warm atmosphere. We refrain from using monotone material in order to avoid a dry and boring impression. In this case, we chose DuPont™ Corian® solid surface as counter material that connects whole space together.” It was a challenge to connect two L-shaped separated spaces, café and working area, without disconnecting the harmony. To resolve this problem, a Café counter and a reception desk made with Corian® solid surface perfectly connected these 2 parts, accompanied with “C” shaped stainless steel lighting system. “When we chose material for making these counters, we tried using many different materials. But Corian® was the only material able to satisfy all our needs of matching with other building materials such as wood and glass, warm to touch and high quality with seamless joint.”, says Sachiko Kayama. Besides, the LED lighting is set under the counter. The Glasa white counter exudes its presence in the warm and stylish impact space of SYNQA Innovation Center.
“The unique offerings by Corian® are unmatched with any other materials. As a designer, I will continue to recommend Corian® in future office designs.” commented by Sachiko Kayama.
