DuPont Building Innovations and Intramuros Magazine Bring Celebrated Carte Blanche Exhibition to Philadelphia, Featuring Original Works by Internationally-Renowned Designers
Unexpected Creations Made of DuPont™ Corian® Solid Surfaces Add Must-See Exhibition to DesignPhiladelphia Roster
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 7 - Dec. 3, 2010 — Due to the overwhelming success of the imaginative Carte Blanche exhibition in New York City, DuPont Building Innovations (DuPont) and French design magazine Intramuros are sharing this collection of one-of-a-kind designs with a new audience in Philadelphia. Opening on Oct. 7 for DesignPhiladelphia and running through Dec. 3, Carte Blanche features works by legendary designers from around the world who were given unlimited freedom to design with a single A4 sheet of DuPont™ Corian® solid surface, an innovative design material with virtually limitless possibilities. The resulting exhibition celebrates the 25th anniversary of Intramuros, the designers who have graced the cover of the magazine, and the versatility of DuPont™ Corian®.
On display at the DuPont™ Corian® Design Studio Philadelphia, Carte Blanche showcases 25 unconventional works by international designers who have been featured on the cover of Intramuros from 2005 to 2010. From a model city to puzzles, ping pong rackets and a birthday cake, each design was created with only a single A4 sheet of Corian® Designer White. Designed by Philippe Boisselier, the exhibition showcases a variety of innovative fabrication techniques such as thermoforming, inlays, image sublimation, carving and routing, demonstrating the flexibility and versatility of DuPont™ Corian® solid surfaces.
“We are thrilled to introduce Carte Blanche to a new audience in Philadelphia,” said Elizabeth Lawson, commercial marketing manager – DuPont Building Innovations. “With the world’s most prominent designers contributing, we had hoped from the beginning that Carte Blanche would serve as a traveling exhibition, allowing architects and designers from around the country to see what happens when the best of the best are given free rein to play with Corian®.”

Intramuros magazine was created in September 1985 by Chantal Hamaide, publisher and editor in chief and Thierry Houplain, art director. A bilingual French-English design magazine published every two months, it is the only magazine in the world to observe and analyze industrial design from economic cultural and educational perspectives. For the last 25 years, Intramuros has been anticipating new market trends and evaluating the economic and creative impact of design on industry. Intramuros reveals new talents, selects new products and offers the latest design information: shows, new places, exhibitions, books. It is the source for design news and information, among specifiers, opinion leaders, decision makers, teachers and aficionados alike. Initially read mainly by professionals, designers, architects, manufacturers and designers, Intramuros now seeks to increase its readership and introduce a wider public to the culture of design. The magazine regularly invites designers and manufacturers to explain their different approaches to design, to make the public more aware of its importance.
In commercial environments, DuPont™ Corian® solid surfaces can be used to create unique, beautiful design statements through numerous vertical applications, such as walls, wainscoting, backsplashes and elevator interiors, as well as through horizontal applications, such as workstations and countertops, retail displays and fixtures, furniture, lighting and decorative pieces.
