Introducing DuPont™ Solumax™ Soluble Granules

DuPont™ Solumax™ soluble granules, a new herbicide technology from DuPont, will soon create herbicides that have the convenience and benefits of a dry product, yet act like a liquid.

Herbicides created using Solumax™ soluble granule technology will provide all the benefits of current dry flowable (DF) sulfonylurea herbicides, including outstanding weed control, but will have simplified tank-cleanout and improved plant absorption.

“Herbicides powered by Solumax™ dissolve completely,” explains Travis Schoonbaert, Cereals and Oilseeds Product Manager for DuPont Canada. “Solumax™ soluble granules actually go into solution unlike most dry products that are only in suspension when mixed.”

As a result, herbicides with Solumax™ soluble granules won’t settle-out in the spray tank and are easier and faster to clean out of the tank.  Less active adheres to the sides of the tank and particles won’t clog nozzles or become trapped in filters or other pinch points.

In tests conducted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Crop Development Centre at the University of Saskatchewan, tank clean-out times were reduced by up to 70 percent compared to the time taken for a DF herbicide. The improved solubility provided by Solumax™ also means less water is required to thoroughly clean the tank.

In addition, because it is easier to remove product residue from the tank, the impact to subsequently sprayed crops like peas or canola is minimized.

Solumax™ soluble granules also increase the bioavailability of the active ingredient. The active is rapidly absorbed into the plant, which provides fast, effective and consistent weed control.

“For three years, DuPont has conducted field research in Canada with herbicides produced with Solumax™ soluble granules,” comments Bill Summers, Registration and Development Manager for DuPont Canada. “These herbicides have performed with great consistency over a wide range of environmental conditions.”

Solumax™ technology will soon be introduced in a number of DuPont herbicides.
