Soybean growers have a new choice for spring burn-down this year that offers residual benefits: Guardian™ herbicide tank-mix.

“With its residual activity, Guardian™ is the best choice for growers wanting to get an early start on spraying while also minimizing in-crop weed control applications,” comments Larry Dumaine, Sales and Marketing Manager for Corn and Soybeans for DuPont Canada. “And now growers can use Guardian™ as a burn-down prior to planting either conventional or Roundup Ready® soybeans.”

Guardian™ effectively controls every weed that glyphosate gets and more. As a pre-plant burn-down, Guardian™ will also control yellow nutsedge and annual sow-thistle and will provide season-long control of dandelion. It can also be applied in-crop to Roundup Ready® soybeans, from the first to the third trifoliate stage, to provide season-long control of dandelion, yellow nutsedge and annual sow-thistle.

“I see a shift in many fields toward later germinating weeds such as dandelion and velvetleaf,” comments Dave Kloppenburg, field agronomist with DuPont Canada. “This makes residual herbicides such as Guardian™ worth considering.”

Depending on weed species and pressure, the residual control provided by Guardian™ may mean that growers only need to spray their fields once, saving both time and money. “With the high cost of fuel and growers’ hectic spring schedules, the prospect of being able to reduce the number of passes over a field is highly appealing,” comments Kloppenburg.

For Larry Blaney, a grower from Milton, Ontario, it was just the answer he was looking for in-crop for his glyphosate-tolerant soybeans so he could go in and spray only once. “The weed control’s excellent and I was really quite happy with the way it got the weeds and its residual component,” he says.

Guardian™ uses two active ingredients from separate herbicide groups – a Group 9 non-selective herbicide (glyphosate) and a Group 2 broadleaf herbicide (chlorimuron-ethyl).
