The hatcher is the main source of contamination for the whole hatchery. Debris, dead chicks and chick fluff are ideal breeding sites for bacteria and fungi in the warm and humid hatchery environment and this contamination is easily spread by air currents, personnel and equipment. Attention to cleaning, disinfection and handling procedures is of utmost importance.
Cleaning & Disinfection for Walls, Floors, Ceilings, Windows, Fans, Ducting & Machines
Remove all equipment for cleaning.
Using a squeegee or similar, scrape the maximum amount of debris out into containers for disposal.
Using a pressure washing system either spray or foam an appropriate DuPont detergent solution to all interior surfaces. Where necessary scrub walls and floors to remove stubborn soiling.
Leave to soak for 20-30 minutes before rinsing all surfaces with clean water at high pressure.
Remove any excess water from the floors using a squeegee and replace all equipment.
Switch the hatcher on and leave to warm up.
Apply an appropriate broad spectrum DuPont disinfectant solution, using a pressure washing system on a low pressure setting (300psi), to all surfaces of the setter and leave to dry.
Eggtrays, setter trays, and chick crates must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before reuse or return to farm.
Using a pressure washing system soak all trays and crates with an appropriate DuPont detergent solution before washing off with clean hot water and then allow to dry.
Apply an appropriate broad spectrum DuPont disinfectant solution, at low pressure (300psi) and then allow to dry. If using an automatic tray washing machine use an appropriate DuPont low foam heavy duty tray wash detergent. Use the detergent as either a pre-diluted solution or add the appropriate volume of concentrate to each wash tank using a suitable proportioning system. Where applicable, trays and boxes should be sprayed with a fine mist of disinfectant solution.
Disinfect crates and trays immediately after washing with a suitable DuPont broad spectrum disinfectant.
After each use the machine should be emptied, washed clean with fresh water and spray disinfected.
Waste Disposal - keep free from debris. Spray disinfectant on all surrounding areas daily.
Water Systems - clean water is necessary to maintain humidity, if water becomes contaminated use an appropriate DuPont broad spectrum disinfectant until quality is restored.
Water Scale / Lime Deposits – within the humidification and ventilation systems, water evaporation can leave deposits of calcium salts on fans, pipework etc. This build up of scale is an ideal site for build up of bacterial contamination. As required, according to the rate of scale deposition use a suitable DuPont descaling detergent.
Aerial Disinfection - to help control airborne organisms and disinfect inaccessible areas of the hatchery use a fine mist sprayer to apply a suitable DuPont disinfectant solution evenly the end of each working day.
