November 2008
DuPont DeLisle Sustainability Team volunteered time in October to help the Nature Conservancy, and kicked off a November recycling program.
During October the committee continued to help the Nature Conservancy evaluate the health of St. Louis Bay oyster reefs.
DuPont DeLisle has helped provide funding for the Conservancy’s work to restore reefs. The group of volunteers were instructed to fish in areas that were over the oyster reefs and off the reefs. The data will help Conservancy scientists evaluate the health of the reefs.
Since November 15th is “America Recycles Day,” the Sustainability Committee decided to sponsor two extra recycling programs during the month of November.
The plant already recycles under existing programs (scrap metal, recycling water, raw material reuse, and used oil recycling), but wanted to put added emphasis on two other programs for site personnel that included aluminum can and phone book (paper) recycling.
The goal of the November program is to promote recycling awareness, offer DeLisle employees a chance to contribute a few more ways to recycling, and to gather data and lessons learned from the November project about behaviors, participation, recycling interest, logistics, and obstacles.
