December 2008
The DuPont DeLisle Plant funded the Junior Achievement pilot program for five fifth grade classes at Pass Christian and DeLisle Elementary schools in November 2008.
Five 45-minute sessions were held during the month on each Tuesday and Thursday at the schools and were facilitated by DuPont volunteers: Simone Bellow, Beth Veillon, Phillip Gray, Vince Stutts and Joyce Lloyd. Each session began with a safety contact as is the practice for starting all meetings at the DeLisle Plant.
The students were introduced to JA's "Our Nation" module, which included learning about:
- the three forms of businesses
- the resources needed to run a business successfully
- applying for a job
- business production methods
- how businesses use advertising to sell their products and/or services
The sessions were lively, highly interactive and fun for everyone who participated. Plans are in the works to provide JA sessions for the school's seventh graders in early 2009.
