DuPont Display Films & Coatings Introduces DuPont™ Optilon™ Advanced Composite Reflector
New Materials Continue to Expand DuPont Offerings for Displays
DuPont Display Films & Coatings, part of DuPont Fluoroproducts, announces the launch of DuPont™ Optilon™ Advanced Composite Reflector (ACR), designed to significantly improve liquid crystal display (LCD) performance, allow greater design flexibility and lower display cost. DuPont will present this new offering, along with a broad portfolio of display technology developments, at the Society for Information Display (SID) Symposium in San Francisco, Calif., from June 5-9, at booth #802.
"Optilon™ ACR clearly outshines conventional reflectors with superior performance," said Stacy Dedinas, global business manager for Electronics with DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions. "Not only does it perform better, it enables novel display designs, and does so cost effectively. We are very pleased to introduce this new product as part of DuPont’s extensive portfolio of innovative materials and technologies for displays. It’s another prime example of how DuPont is putting science to work to help our customers address the challenges of this fast paced industry."
Compared to conventional reflectors, DuPont™ Optilon™ ACR has high reflectivity, flat reflectance spectra, and high diffuse reflectivity. With this unique combination of properties, DuPont™ Optilon™ ACR offers increased display luminance, more neutral color, improved color mixing, and improved LED backlight unit performance. In addition, DuPont™ Optilon™ ACR has excellent UV and environmental performance.
"We’re also looking to extend the Optilon™ brand with new products in development like single-layer, wet-coated anti-reflective films. We expect Optilon™ anti-reflective film coatings will provide excellent optical properties, with extremely low reflectivity, high abrasion resistance, and the cost effectiveness of single-layer film" said Dedinas. "Although these are in development, we’re looking forward to sharing more about our advances with colleagues in the industry at SID."
DuPont Displays will showcase a range of other recent innovations at SID, including its revolutionary solution-processing of small molecule materials for organic light emitting displays (OLEDs), new lead-free DuPont™ Fodel® photoimageable thick-film paste for the metallization of the front glass used in plasma display panels (PDPs), further developments in its laser imaging process to replace photolithography in the manufacture of color filters for LCDs, and DuPont Teijin Films will present its new stabilized film offering ideal for use in flexible displays.
