DuPont Teijin Films™ (DTF) has introduced Melinex® ST™ Thin heat-stabilized polyester films with enhanced flexibility and optics for flexible displays, touch screens and other flexible printed electronics applications.  This is the newest addition to the broad and growing portfolio of DTF high performance films for the display industry, which will be featured at the Society for Information Display’s (SID) 2010 Exposition, to be held May 24-26, 2010, in Seattle, Wash.  New Melinex® ST™ Thin, heat-stabilized polyester films feature superior optical clarity, smooth surface, low shrinkage and predictable dimensional changes in variable heat and moisture conditions.  Also new for 2010 are adhesive coated Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) optical films and Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) films for mount/demount applications where a carrier is used for processing.

“Heat-stabilized optical grade PET and PEN films are being widely adopted in the emerging flexible displays industry, and Melinex® ST™ is ideal for these applications,” said Bob Rustin, market development manager – DuPont Teijin Films.  “It offers exceptional clarity, thinness, superior adhesion to topcoats, and handles well in downstream manufacturing processes.  As a pioneer in the polyester film industry, we continue to invest in our R&D portfolio with the goal of delivering products that meet exacting performance and quality standards to customers. We’re very pleased to add this new innovation to our portfolio to help our customers succeed in the fast growing flexible display segment.”

As the market evolves, customers and end-users are demanding flexible display technology with reduced device thickness, improved economics and productivity, and enhanced flexibility and optics.  Melinex® ST™ Thin offers crystal clarity, a thin 50 micron profile, and high quality designed to meet the market demands.  It also features dimensional stability equivalent to thicker films and is suitable for vacuum processing.

DuPont Teijin Films™ is a global joint venture partnership between DuPont and Teijin, and a world-leading manufacturer of high-performance Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) optical and stabilized films, including the newly available planarized PET and PEN films, for LCDs, PDPs, touchscreens, printed flexible electronics, and OLED lighting.  Brand names include Mylar®, Melinex®, and Teijin® Tetoron® PET polyester film, and Teonex® PEN polyester film.  The business includes DuPont-Hongji Films Foshan Co., Ltd., a Chinese joint venture.
