Direct Bonding for Marine Electronics

LCD displays used in marine electronics such as chart plotters, fish finders and GPS systems face some unique challenges. Due to high humidity levels at sea, condensation develops on these displays as moisture enters through the air gap between the display and protective cover. These displays also have multiple reflective surfaces and are susceptible to scratching. Current designs do not meet these challenging environmental requirements.

This advanced technology consists of bonding anti-reflective glass directly onto the front of LCD displays, which removes the air gap between the display and protective cover and prevents condensation. In addition, DuPont Direct Bonded displays have improved outdoor readability and can withstand harsh conditions faced at sea, such as extreme lighting and temperatures. Direct Bonding also eliminates additional reflective surfaces and increases a display’s contrast ratio and robustness.
