DuPont™ ECCtreme™

Uses & Applications

ECCtreme® ECA 3000 fluoroplastic resin was developed in response to significant industry demand for a high-temperature, melt-extrudable plastic that has physical, electrical, and chemical properties characteristic of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with the added ability to operate at temperatures up to 300 °C1 — far surpassing traditional high-temperature insulating materials that typically attained a 260 °C use-temperature rating.

ECCtreme® ECA 3000 holds the promise for enhancing technologies that are used to produce both traditional and alternative forms of energy, such as oil & gas and geothermal energy, as well as in the signal and wire cabling2 markets.

The unique combination of high performance characteristics of ECCtreme® ECA fluoroplastic can enable electric submersible pump (ESP) manufacturers and temperature/pressure sensing equipment OEMs to specify high-temperature copper cable insulation material that is melt-processable and retains all the excellent chemical and electrical properties traditionally associated with DuPont™ Teflon® fluoroplastic resins.

Automotive OEMs can potentially use ECCtreme® ECA fluoroplastic in the design specs for O2 sensor wiring, exhaust sensors, and transmission applications, because the high temperature tolerance allows cables to be fitted in confined spaces. The beneficial properties of ECCtreme® ECA 3000 can also be used to produce injection and compression molded parts, as well as extruded tubing wherever current fluoroplastics are traditionally used.
