Sustainable Growth is Our Cornerstone

The cornerstone of DuPont's environmental stewardship is sustainable growth - constantly reducing the environmental footprint of our operations while bringing value to the community and ensuring that our activities are compatible with the environment.

We operate with the consent of the community and we are committed to honoring that consent every day through our performance.

Leading the Way to Safety

DuPont is globally recognized as an innovator and a leader in the field of safety. At the Edge Moor site, we value safety as a way of life and have committed to operating our businesses in a way that protects people and the environment. Our Goal of Zero (injuries, illnesses, incidents, waste and emissions) in the areas of safety, health and the environment permeates all our operations and practices.

DuPont has a safety culture that is based on the interdependence of the following elements:

  • Corporate commitment and leadership skills
  • Safe behaviors
  • Observant, concerned operations management
  • Genuine caring and accountability among employees
  • Complete, timely communication

Safety and Environment

At Edge Moor, employees adhere to the highest standards for the safe operation of the facility and the protection of the environment, fellow employees, customers and the people of the local community. The plant strengthens its businesses by making safety, health and environmental issues an integral part of all business activities and by continuously striving to align safe operations with public expectations.

In 2006, the site achieved one year without a DuPont recordable injury and the National Paint and Coatings Association recognized the Edge Moor team for outstanding achievements in safety.  Also, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized the plant for voluntarily reducing dioxin levels more than 50 percent during the TiO2 manufacturing process.

The plant continues to voluntarily reduce levels of dioxin and dioxin-like compounds and has safely implemented a $25 million capital investment to help with the reduction efforts.   Another example of how the plant is striving for continuous improvement in reducing the plant's environmental footprint.

We Meet Environmental Requirements

Edge Moor takes hundreds of environmental measurements each year to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations governing plant operations. All operations are monitored to ensure protection of the environment.  Many plant processes are automatically controlled by computer systems that strengthen the ability to protect employees, the community and the environment.

As a member of the highly regulated chemical industry, Edge Moor is subject to extensive regulatory supervision by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC).
