VOLTATEX® : The Trendsetting Coating Systems

DuPont not only offer a unique portfolio of high quality varnishes, but also provides customers with specific solutions for their individual requirements.

  For C3

Voltatex®1153E

Voltatex®1230

These varnishes are mainly applied on electrical steel used in standard motors and transformers. Special resins assure excellent punchability. With coating thicknesses of up to 7 μm, a very high insulation resistance can be achieved.

The newly developed non-transparent Voltatex ® 1230 varnish provides a C3 insulation with increased optical covering power.

For C3

selfbonding:

Voltatex® 1175W

Voltatex® 1175

These varnishes are used in a special compound technology where the laminations of the core stack are not fixed by mechanical connections, but are bonded only through pressure and temperature. This special bonding technology consists of 2 steps: First, the electrical steel is coated with selfbonding varnish and dried (but not cured) in a furnance, whereby the curing reactivity remains preserved. In a second step, the bonding of the punched parts is carried out under pressure and temperature, leading to the complete curing of the selfbonding varnish. A more elastic bonding over the whole surface and a higher iron density in the core are the main advantages of this special compound technology.

The environmentally-friendly selfbonding varnish Voltatex ® 1175W is based on a waterborne system which shows a significant reduction in squeezing.
For C4:

Voltatex® 1167

Voltatex® 1240

Specially designed to insulate grain oriented electrical steel both products are resistant against high thermal stress and provide excellent insulation resistance and good punching behaviour. Voltatex® 1167 is a 1-component core sheet based on inorganic components

and applicable for high permeable grain oriented steel. The silica based organic–inorganic hybrid system Voltatex® 1240 with an alkaline pH provides a smooth surface and is applicable for conventional grain oriented steel.
For C5:

Voltatex® 1120

Voltatex® 1250

These varnishes are mainly used for electrical steel intended for small and medium size motors.  Voltatex® 1120 is based on an environmental-friendly titanate system developed and patented by DuPont.

The innovative Voltatex® 1250 offers improved annealing resistance and excellent weldability, even at high film thickness. Of course, this varnish also combines all advantages of the standard C5 varnish Voltatex® 1120 such as free of chromium, good surface insulation resistance, excellent punchability and fast curing speed.
For C6:

Voltatex® 1151A

Voltatex® 1151E

Voltatex® 1151S

Voltatex® 1260

The major applications of these varnishes are on steel sheets for the magnetic core of large, rotating machines like generators. They are suitable for coating thicknesses between 3 and 10 μm and distinguish themselves by excellent edge coverage and high insulation capacity. Special fillers provide good pressure resistance and low stack shrinkage.

Application cost reduction can be achieved with Voltatex® 1151S – a more reactive varnish which allows higher curing speed or lower curing temperature up to 30%.

Voltatex® 1260 pays special attention to increasing environmental and health aspects and therefore only contains raw materials free of any formaldehyde content and emission.
