DuPont™ Elvanol® polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH, sometimes also referred to as PVA) is a water-soluble synthetic polymer with excellent film-forming, emulsifying, and adhesive properties. This versatile polymer offers outstanding resistance to oil, grease and solvents, plus high tensile strength, flexibility, and high oxygen barrier.

Textile sizing and finishing

Alone, or in combination with starch and additives, Elvanol® T-Grades are being used successfully on practically every type of spun yarn now on the market.

Paper and paperboard

Because of its outstanding film strength, barrier properties and binding capacity, DuPont™ Elvanol® polyvinyl alcohol enjoys wide use in the manufacture of paper and paperboard.

Industrial adhesives

Elvanol® is widely used in industrial adhesives for paper and paperboard, and in general purpose adhesives for bonding paper, textiles, leather, wood, and porous ceramic surfaces.

Water soluble films

Other applications

Elvanol® can also be used as a protective colloid in emulsion polymerization processes, in photosensitive coatings, as a binder for building products such as ceramics, in ceiling tiles, floor coatings and particle board, and in pigmented paper coatings, ceramic materials and non-woven fabrics.
