The primary function of DuPont™ Energain® panels is to limit the degree to which temperatures rise above and below acceptable 'comfort levels' for people inhabiting a building. As a consequence of that function, the need for cooling and heating systems is greatly reduced.
With air conditioning, for example, this means two things:
- Buildings can be fitted with smaller, more economical air conditioning units; and
- Standard-sized air conditioning units may be installed, but are not used to the same degree as they would be in a building without DuPont™ Energain® panels.
Either way, a building with DuPont™ Energain® uses less energy to run air conditioning, which represents a major cost saving. Tests carried out by DuPont and independent third parties indicate that a saving of up to 35% on air conditioning costs can be realized with DuPont™ Energain® panels in place.
Similarly, the release of heat back into a room, as temperatures drop, alleviates the need to switch on heating systems, and this too will lead to an energy-related cost saving.
DuPont™ Energain® provides a 'win-win' scenario of reducing both cooling and heating costs.
