DuPont™ FE-36™: Preferred Replacement in NASCAR® NEXTEL Cup™ Series Rules

August 29, 2005 -- DuPont Fire Extinguishants are going along for the ride with Jeff Gordon and the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. Jeff and his car are protected by DuPont™ FE-36™ clean agent fire extinguishant, which is becoming the standard in-kind replacement for Halon 1211 in driver compartments for motorsports, portable fire extinguishers for commercial buildings, and for Halon 1301 in engine compartments.

Due to safety issues, NASCAR® banned the use of Halon 1211 for the driver compartment. The DuPont Fire Extinguishants team worked closely with motorsports original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to test and qualify FE-36™ as an advanced alternative.

FE-36™ has comparable performance and efficiency to Halon 1211 and offers lower toxicity and zero ozone depletion potential. As a result, FE-36™ is named in the 2005 NASCAR® NEXTEL Cup™ Series rules detailing requirements for drivers' personal safety equipment. As the industry converts to Halon alternatives, FE-36™ also is used for fire protection of garage, car carrier and pit equipment.

"In the race to protect what matters most - people, assets and the environment - DuPont finishes first, with a strong and lasting commitment to excellence in fire safety solutions," said Douglas Johnston, director, marketing and sales, DuPont Fluorochemicals. "FE-36™ is first in safety as the preferred Halon alternative for onboard driver protection. It's first in performance, as the most widely tested alternative for the racing industry. And it's first in reliability, with United States Environmental Protection Agency approval and worldwide availability. That's a winning combination."
