DuPont Awards $2,500 Grants to City of Keystone Heights and Keystone Jr./Sr. High School

Grants Awarded in Recognition of DuPont Water Conservation Efforts

The city of Keystone Heights and Keystone Junior/Senior High School had welcome news at their recent meeting, when each were informed they had been chosen to receive a grant by representatives of the local DuPont site. The City of Keystone Heights and Keystone Junior/Senior High School each were awarded a $2,500 check from the DuPont Sustainable Growth program.

A team from the DuPont Florida Plant was one of twelve teams selected to receive the 2007 Sustainable Growth Award for excellence in water conservation and community support efforts.

Over the past ten years, the Florida Plant team has reduced their groundwater consumption by greater than 65%. Three years ago, the Team was also instrumental in installing a project to redirect a portion of the site's final effluent to the Etonia Creek basin. Since the line was installed, more than 300 million gallons have been redirected to the drought stricken Keystone Heights lakes.

DuPont Florida Mine Safety, Health and Environmental Manager worked with Mayor Mary Lou Hildrith and Principal, Dr. Susan Sailor to determine a worthy cause the funds should be used for.

"Environmental stewardship is one of DuPont's most closely held values. We hope that this donation will contribute to the city of Keystone Heights efforts to improve their local community by supplementing their "Lets Go Native" grant and the Keystone Junior/Senior High School uses the funds to enhance their science department" said Wright. "Contributing to our communities is just one more way that DuPont is working to be a good neighbor in North Florida."

The DuPont Sustainable Growth Award is a competitive grant-making program established to recognize teams that create shareholder and societal value while improving environmental performance.
