DuPont Offers Virtual Tours of Florida Titanium Mine

Have you ever wondered how DuPont turns Florida sand into titanium dioxide pigment used to make paint? Do you have questions about the plant on County Road 228, but don't know who to ask? You can learn more about this unique local industry by taking a virtual tour at florida.dupont.com.

In an ongoing effort to provide up-to-date and accurate information about its manufacturing facility, DuPont announced today the launch of its Florida titanium dioxide plant's community website offering a wide variety of information regarding the plant and its people. The site offers one location, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, where those interested can see the breadth and scope of the happenings of the Florida plant. The virtual tour is in the form of a five minute embedded video that takes visitors up close to DuPont's mining, processing and environmental management systems. The new site can be viewed at: florida.dupont.com.

"I wish we could give everyone in our community a personal guided tour of the plant, but time just doesn't allow it. This virtual tour is the next best thing," said Dave Podmeyer, plant manager. "The new website will provide an easy-access source of information for people interested in who we are, what we make, our corporate citizenship and our corporate responsibility. We plan to update this site very regularly and provide relevant information that will be of interest in our local community."

The website will provide visitors with up-to-date information about the DuPont Florida Plant including the plant's vision and mission, products, environmental successes, economic impact, community service, safety and health. The site also contains a press area where individuals can browse recent and archived press releases and find plant contact information.

The DuPont Florida Mine began operation in 1948 and today employs 225 people in DuPont and contractor positions. DuPont has developed the safest and most environmentally responsible way to extract specialty minerals which are used to manufacture beneficial products. Products include ilmenite ore for the production of titanium dioxide pigment; zircon sand for precision investment casting, and a source of zirconium, as well as staurolite for abrasive blasting and surface preparation.
