DuPont Florida Plant Employees Win “Sentinels of Safety” Award
Employees of the DuPont Florida Plant were recently awarded the "Sentinels of Safety" designation for outstanding workplace safety performance by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Mining Association (NMA). This is the 18th time the DuPont Florida Plant has received the award.
The purpose of the annual "Sentinels of Safety" award program is to recognize achievement of outstanding safety records, to stimulate greater interest in safety and to encourage development of more effective accident prevention programs among the nation's mineral extractive industries. This program is cosponsored by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Mining Association (NMA). To be eligible for the award, a mine must complete the year without a lost-time injury and achieve overall safety performance better than the national average.
"I am very proud of our DuPont plant team for working safely and caring about each other," said David Wright, safety, health and environmental manager. "This award is nice, but the real reward comes from knowing that we are ensuring our employees and processes are safe."
The DuPont Florida Plant began operation in 1948 and today employs 180 people. DuPont has developed the safest and most environmentally responsible way to extract specialty minerals which are used to manufacture beneficial products. Products include ilmenite ore for the production of titanium dioxide brightening pigment; zircon sand for precision casting; and staurolite for abrasive surface cleaning.
