Q: Fluorinated surfactants are the most expensive part of my foam concentrate formulation. Why should I use them?
A: Quite simply, foam concentrates with fluorinated surfactants are far more effective than those formulated with non- or low-fluorine foams. Plus, fire fighting foams made with DuPont™ Forafac® are safe, reliable and readily available worldwide.

Q: Are fire fighting foams made with fluorinated surfactants really safe for the environment?
A: Because fluorinated surfactants are highly stable, they do not biodegrade if released into the environment. DuPont, however, continues to research the successful laboratory use of activated carbon to absorb fluorinated surfactants from water, which can then be incinerated.

Q: I have foam manufacturing operations around the world. How can I be sure that I can get Forafac® whenever and wherever I need it?
A: As a global leader in supplying fluorinated surfactants to the fire fighting industry, DuPont remains committed to assuring a consistent, reliable supply of Forafac® to our customers around the world.

Q: How do I know which grade of Forafac® to use?
A: Forafac® is available in six different grades, each appropriate for specific types of foam concentrates, including Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), AFFF with Alcohol Resistance, Film Forming Foam Proteinic (FFFP), FFFP with Alcohol Resistance and foam for portable extinguishers.

Q: What types of fire is Forafac® used to put out?
A: Forafac® is extremely effective when used on any liquid fire, including hydrocarbon and polar solvent fires. This is because Forafac® enables the fire fighting foam to spread and float across the surface of the fire, cooling it down and reducing the risk of burn back.

Q: I only use portable extinguishers. Is there a Forafac® grade that’s right for me?
A: DuPont is pleased to offer Forafac® 1203, specifically designed for use in portable fire extinguishers. This product is ideal for Class A and Class B fires and is available in pre-mix or cartridge.

Q: What types of industry benefit from fire fighting foams with Forafac®?
A: Forafac® fluorinated surfactants are widely used in a variety of industrial applications to fight hydrocarbon and polar liquid fires throughout the oil, chemical and aviation industries, as well as by fire brigades and the military.

Q: I've heard about new non-fluorine and low-fluorine foams. How do they compare with Forafac® fluorinated surfactants?
A: When it comes to the fastest extinguishing time and reduced risk of burn back, non-fluorine and low-fluorine foams simply can’t offer the same level of performance as fire fighting foams made with Forafac® fluorinated surfactants.
