DuPont™ Hydrology™ for Outerwear and Apparel

DuPont™ Hydrology™ helps apparel and outerwear feel more comfortable, last longer and look better—even after repeated tough use and multiple machine washings—thanks to its superior protection against the weather; exceptional dimensional stability; colorfastness; and ability to breathe and dry quickly. And, because DuPont™ Hydrology™ is a total systems approach, not a coating that is applied to leather, it will not have a negative effect on the breathability, feel, or scent of the leather.
Superior resistance properties
In numerous standardized tests, leather tanned with DuPont™ Hydrology™ consistently resisted water penetration and absorption far better than conventionally-tanned leather.
For example, in a severe simulated rain test conducted according to ISO 9865, samples tanned with DuPont™ Hydrology™ exhibited no leak-through even up to four hours of testing.
DuPont™ Hydrology™ also helps leather resist staining.* Dry soil doesn’t stick and most spills—including tough challengers such as soy sauce, red wine, fruit drinks and coffee—wash right out. Soil resistance was tested according to a modified AATCC TM123 and stain release was tested according to a modified AATCC TM130.
Exceptional dimensional stability and colorfastness
Leather apparel tanned with DuPont™ Hydrology™ features dimensional stability, as tested according to AATCC TM135, so apparel and outerwear keep their original shape. Leather tanned with DuPont™ Hydrology™ also exhibits remarkable fit memory, returning to its original shape even after repeated machine washings. In fact, leather tanned DuPont™ Hydrology™ exhibits less than 5% shrinkage when tested through five wash/dry cycles.
And, repeated washings don’t cause colors to fade. When leather tanned with DuPont™ Hydrology™ was tested after five wash/dry cycles, color was retained, keeping the leather looking like new.
Outstanding breathability and quick-drying nature When it comes to comfort in apparel and outerwear, an important component is breathability, which is crucial to moisture management. Leather tanned with DuPont™ Hydrology™ features outstanding breathability. When tested according to ASTM D5052, a typical apparel-weight leather tanned and treated with DuPont™ Hydrology™ had a MVTR greater than 1,000 g/m2/day. The ability to dry quickly is another important feature for apparel and outerwear.
*Stain protection achieved by using DuPont™ Teflon® technology.
Leather apparel and outerwear tanned with DuPont™ Hydrology™ provide consumers with peace of mind knowing their investment will remain shapely, even through tough wear and multiple washings.
