Next Generation Cabin Air Filtration "Protecting the Air Quality for Automotive Consumers" Authors:
Amanda D. Miller - Global Business Manager, DuPont Separations Solutions, Wilmingto DE USA, K B Seong - DuPont Korea
Abstract:
With DuPont's commitment to safety and science, DuPont Separation Solutions develops innovative products for the cabin air filtration market that are designed to enhance the quality of the automotive consumer's environment while improving the sustainability of performance of both the filter and the air management system. Air Filtration products designed by DuPont are aimed at providing sustainable performance versus electrostatic treated media products that are currently in the market place which lose their performance shortly after dust loading occurs. DuPont has a portfolio of technologies, which offer a capability spectrum from simple particle filtration to complex substrates focused at removing sub-micron contaminants at very high efficiencies. In addition, DuPont has the capability to incorporate carbon technologies with high grade particle filtration substrates for ultimate consumer comfort, protection, and peace of mind.
The commitment by DuPont to this market will be demonstrated not only with present day capabilities and technologies that exceed competitive substrates in the market today, but with concepts for next-generation functionalities for air filtration products.. DuPont offers customers proven performance through technologies and products which are developed at the highest level of scientific accuracy and which have reliable, validated performance.

LASER Welding: A New Assembling Method for a Production Benefit Authors:
Susumu Fujita - DuPont Engineering Polymers, Japan, B G Ham - DuPont Engineering Polymers, Korea
Abstract:
Laser welding of polymer parts has been recognized as a new assembly method with unique advantages over commonly used assembly methods such as vibration welding. We have investigated laser welding performance of various EP resins and learned nylon and polyacetal resins can be easily welded, whereas polyester requires carefully optimized conditions. Our study on mechanism revealed some important factors, which resulted in improvement in polyester resins. We also established several programs with system suppliers so that we have better understanding on mechanism and hence be able to provide solutions to our customers such as optimizing conditions and monitoring processes. We are now ready to offer a total solution for aiming a production benefit.

Electrochromic Technology Developments for Automotive Windows Authors:
Hunter Ficke - Director, DuPont Central Research and Development, Wilmington DE, USA, K O Lee - DuPont Korea
Abstract:
DuPont is developing electrochromic technology that enables the construction of less complex electrochromic devices with good contrast and fast switching times. Potential applications include automotive sun roofs that can meet future design trends with existing manufacturing processes without sacrificing safety performance. Current technology is generally limited in automotive to small format items like mirrors due to the high cost of existing technology. A proof of concept has been completed and small devices are available for customer demonstration.

Lubricant & Coating Solutions for Improvement of Vehicle Performance and Quality Author:
H. Carl Walther - Sr. Technical Service Engineer, DuPont Performance Lubricants
Abstract:
DuPont™ Krytox® Lubricant products have been used by the automotive industry since approximately 1985. The applications range from the elimination of squeaks between surface components through a wide range of high temperature bearings to custom designed components operating under the most extreme conditions. Krytox® oils and greases allow the dramatic extension of component life now required in the competitive environment of higher efficiency, higher operating temperatures and longer warranty requirements in new vehicles. This presentation will provide brief introductions into the history of Krytox lubricants, their components, comparison to traditional synthetic lubricants and current automotive applications.
