Pioneer India Partners with Department of Agriculture, Government of Uttar Pradesh, to Increase Farmer Productivity and Profitability
New Approaches to Collaboration Needed to Ensure Improved Farming & Food Security

Improved agricultural practices can make the difference in reducing hunger and poverty and helping farmers move from subsistence farming to farming as a business. Pioneer India, a DuPont business recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Agriculture, Government of Uttar Pradesh, to get hybrid rice and mustard to small and marginal farmers there. “We have the technology to make a difference in agriculture and improve the lives for our generation and for future generations,” said Dr. K.V. Subbarao, Pioneer India Country Manager.

Pioneer will partner with Uttar Pradesh Government’s Department of Agriculture to adopt farm schools and train farmers with extension activities including sampling seed, agronomic and technical teachings, and advice during the critical stages of crop development. The team will also share educational plots that demonstrate the yield superiority of hybrid crops. Additionally, a technical committee comprised of research and extension officers from the Department of Agriculture and Pioneer will formulate the right package of practices suitable to the specific growing conditions. The package of agronomic practices, coupled with technical advice, will optimize the farmers’ inputs and will help to improve his net income.

Dr. Subbarao and Dr. R.R.Verma, Director, Department of Agriculture, Government of Uttar Pradesh, signed the MOU recently. After signing the MoU, Dr. Verma said, “Pioneer and Department of Agriculture will co-operate mutually in the implementation of extension activities incorporated in the letter & sprit of MoU.”

Commenting on this historic moment, Dr. Subbarao said, “Pioneer worldwide helps to improve the productivity and profitability of farmers. We address the issue of food security with our cutting edge technology and improved agronomic practices. This partnership is a welcome step forward to demonstrate the benefits of hybrid technology and the right management practices.”
The key people who played a role in getting this MoU in place were Dr. M.P. Upadhya, State Advisor, ATMA, Uttar Pradesh, Mr. V. Venkatram, India National Sales Director, Pioneer and Mr. Sharad Khurana, Zonal Business Manager, Pioneer.  Dr. Upadhya said, “I believe that after signing this historic MoU for implementation of various extension activities, the joint efforts of Pioneer and Department of Agriculture will go a long way for the betterment of farming community in Uttar Pradesh”.
