How do you explain the research and innovation culture that delivers breakthrough products regularly?
DuPont employees are guided by a big vision: to be the world’s most dynamic science company, putting our science to work to create sustainable solutions for a better, safer and healthier life for people everywhere. This vision reflects an element of our brand identity, “The miracles of science®”, which we adopted a decade ago to describe the company’s ability to make technological leaps that deliver science-based solutions for a better world. DuPont is more than 200 years old, with a long history of bringing science to the world in ways that change peoples’ lives. During this period we have evolved—from a manufacturing company to a chemical company to an integrated science company. Today DuPont has tremendous strength across many disciplines including chemistry, biology, traditional materials science, and electronics. More and more we are recognising that new opportunities are going to come at the interfaces of these technologies.
Innovation is part of everyone’s job at DuPont. Every day we work on new products and new solutions, which include continual improvement of our most successful inventions like Kevlar®. In 2007, 36% of DuPont revenue was derived from new products. We increased the number of new patents by more than 7% and increased the number of patents granted by the US patent trade office by over 17%.
