The high strength, light weight and thermal stability of paper made with DuPont™ Kevlar® allows manufacturers of aerospace and marine equipment to produce safe components that perform better and last longer than their alloy equivalents. Using honeycomb cores made with DuPont™ Kevlar® Paper for Aerospace Applications reduces the weight of the component and helps reduce operating costs. And because Kevlar® is an electrical insulator, it can inhibit galvanic corrosion between dissimilar materials, such as metals and graphite composites.
Each panel of honeycomb core contains Kevlar® Paper and bonding resin. Sheets of Kevlar® paper are sliced, glued, and formed into a series of hexagonally-shaped cells and immersed in a bonding resin. The finished product resembles a cross-sectional slice of a beehive and contains 90-99% open space—providing remarkable weight savings and structural strength.
