DuPont™ Kevlar® fabric is extremely lightweight —comfortable enough to improve mobility and reduce fatigue for soldiers in the field. Yet Kevlar® fiber is five times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis, providing superior protection against fragmentation and ballistic threats. Kevlar® is also inherently flame resistant and provides thermal protection from blasts and fire.

In military-grade body armor, Kevlar® technology has multiple uses: in the Outer Tactical Vest (OTV) ballistic inserts, the backing for ceramic inserts, throat protectors, groin protectors, Deltoid Auxiliary Protection System (DAPS), Enhanced Side Ballistic Insert (ESBI) anti-mine boots and chaps.

In the Interceptor Outer Tactical Vest, Kevlar® KM2® technology provides exactly this kind of versatile protection. The vest is lighter and features substantially superior ballistic performance compared to the Personnel Armor System Ground Troops (PASGT) vest system. Kevlar® fibers provide excellent protection from conventional fragmentation and multiple hits from 9mm handguns. Inserts made with Kevlar® are also tough and resilient enough to help protect against cuts or chemicals and it is flame resistant.
